Every time I hear the word civil, I go straight back to middle school, where “being civil” meant smiling at somebody you had absolutely decided to be lowkey haters of. Adults do the same thing at work all the time — we just call it professionalism, pretend nobody notices, and let the culture rot quietly in the background.
