Episode 8: Why Pride Month Matters
Essence and Emily, wives and psychologists who run DRSC, open episode eight of Talking Shoppe by celebrating Pride Month and playing “Work Wife, Work Overlord, Work Nemesis”. They then discuss why Pride Month can be polarizing at work and online, corporate “rainbow washing,” and how some identities are treated as debatable while others are not. Using an equality vs. equity fence analogy, they argue that uplifting queer people is not pushing others down. They talk about compulsory heterosexuality, concerns about “indoctrination,” and how Pride offers visibility and hope, especially to isolated people, leading to an emotional reflection on those who didn’t survive to see acceptance. They close with their weekly R.E.P.O.R.T. and a tradition of getting Rita’s gelatis with rainbow sprinkles on June 1.
